Floods in Ukraine: 22 dead and thousands homeless

22 people, including 6 children, died and about 20,000 were evacuated following the storms and floods that hit in recent days, the west of Ukraine, according to a new balance of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, disclosed the second Monday.
The previous release had advanced the balance of 13 dead and more than 6,700 Ukrainians evacuated.
Fifteen people died in the region of Ivano-Frankivsk, the most affected by the disaster, including five children, and seven others, including a child, died in the region of Tchernivtsi, moved into the Minister reported.
More than 40 thousand households and 34 thousand hectares of agricultural land were partially flooded, while a hundred
localities was deprived of electricity, as a consequence of cutting of high voltage power lines. More than 900 bridges and 680 km of roads were also damaged. The first aiders evacuated more than 19,800 people.
The President Viktor Yushchenko and Prime Minister Ioulia Timochenko visited, on Sunday, the areas most affected.
“We should keep us united. There will be abandoned in this situation, we will solve all the problems together,” said Yushchenko Galytch of the inhabitants in the region of Ivano-Frankivsk.
The Head of State asked the government to prepare, this Wednesday, the estimates of damage and delivery of compensation to people affected by the disaster.
The authorities distributed, Monday, food, drinking water and medicines in areas affected.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, were also ongoing work to restore power supply, the pumping of water in flooded homes, cleaning of rivers and strengthening of coastal areas.
